    The population of Pecos, Texas was 9,501 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Reeves County, TexasReeves County, located in the Chihuahuan Desert. One of the most popular norteño (music)norteño bands, Los Rieleros del Norte, was founded in the town of Pecos, although Tejano music was widely popular until the late 1990's. The city is popular for its cantauloupes as well as the West of the Pecos Museum. Pecos claims to have held the world's first rodeo on July 4 1883.
