Navigating a vessel without taking into consideration the effect of tidal races and/or water movement.

Simply navigating during the period between the tide running in and when it starts to run out...slackwater. If a vessel wants to leave a tidal area, it would choose the time when it does not have to battle the incoming tide. Or it leaves at high tide and uses the outgoing tide to help it on its way.
