Help answer this question below.
I never ever go outside and i have dark skin. I know i am deficient. How much D3 should i take to fix myself and for how long?
For the love of Mary, Joe, Sue, and Bob, just go outside.
You have to have the extent of your deficiency measured and then the doctor will proscribe the correct dose accordingly. Also, ask about taking vitamin Alpha D3 as opposed to D2. It is supposed to be more effective. There are studies showing that you should also take magnesium while you are taking vitamin D too. That is also something you should ask your doctor.
Hi Crystalthelondonlover! I can relate to your question. I have extremely fair skin and in the winter time it is dark when I leave for work and dark when I come home so I am never outside while there is sunlight, except on a day off. Vitamin D3 deficiency is a very real concern.
There is a very simple test your doctor can give you to accurately measure your Vitamin D, and if it is low, your physician will prescribe you a daily supplement of Vitamin D3. However, 15,000 IU is WAY TOO HIGH a dosage! The D vitamins are not water soluble (B and C vitamins are) and so you can not flush excess out of your system, and it can become toxic. My understanding is more like 2,000 is a maximum dosage.
To save money on the prescriptions, you may want to try a supplement like Synergy One A Day, made by Neutraceuticals. Look around online; you can get it for half price at vitacost.com, with very low shipping cost.
I hope this information helps! Best wishes for good health!
that's a shit load of vitamin D seeing as you only need 400iu a day. Try taking 1,000 a day and no matter how much you take really it'll be 1 to 3 months for any results. My doctor told me this when I had the lowest levels he had seen in his practice...
Why wouldn't you go outside? Talk to your doctor about that. Never, ever take extra vitamins without consulting a doctor. Too much can be just as bad as not enough.
Vitamin D will not help you at all, if you do not go out in the sun. It needs sunlight to convert it to a form that the body can use. So go outside.
