Yeah but attention is about all that they could give you since your house would likely be impenetrable.

Put the plating on the inside and no one but you and the contractor would know.

It would make it a target, since you obviously are trying to protect something of great value.

In the UK when a home is repossessed, the first thing they do is plate the windows and doors with sheets of metal,so that would attract the scrap metal guys, whose women whittle clothes-pegs.

Could start a trend as long as it is aesthetically pleasing.

I've thought about doing something like that, specifically covering my refrigirator door in kevlar, since that would be the most likely point of entry and/or violent confrontation. No sense in getting my frozen lasagna mixed in with the crackhead brains on the floor.

No silly I'm sure it wouldn't stand out in any American sub-division. I'm curious however... If you had the money, resources and zoning permits to clad your home in steel it might be kind of obvious that you were protecting something which would attract thieves. Are you concerned that thieves would notice or that you would have a massive rust problem?

it would also add tremendous loading force to your walls and supporting structures.

The negative attention might come when your living room caves in, and everyone sees that you watch 'The View'.

How would anyone know what the heck you were using? They have aluminum siding, don't they? Well unless you advertise it how would anyone know if it were straw, wood or brick? :) There are very clever ways to disguise things. Faux flowers/fruits trick us all the time. So I wouldn't worry. I'd keep it mum. Let the bad guys who try anything get a huge surprise. Maybe it could be electrified to give
'em a sturdy shock, like a stun gun? :)
