Do you have to take out metal piercings before going through the metal detector at an airport?

You don't have to take them out beforehand. More than likely, they will not even set the alarm off. The risk increases with the more piercings you have or the larger gauge jewelry you wear in them. If you really don’t want to have to explain your piercing(s), your best option would probably be to remove the jewelry before you get there.

nope, i had 12 piercings, and i was fine. a little scared, but it was cool

They don't even set off the alarm it's not metal it's surgical steel so you should be fine.

I have 16 piercings (so far hehe) and the alarm never goes off at the airport. It is always the belt that does it!

No, I work at the airport and go through security 10-12 times a day and have a 12ga frenum piercing and it never sets of the Walk Through Metal Detector Alarm and if it did when they send you over through a Pat-down and Hand Wand it would just look like the zipper on my pants anyway so they would have no clue my penis is pierced

Piercings are not done with the kind of metal that sets metal detectors off, so you will be fine. Enjoy your trip!
