  • An Estate Sale would be a good idea, if there are many items left. This is how my family sold a lot of large furniture that nobody wanted or had room for. In one weekend we sold everything.
  • After having estate sales and garage sales, I donated the rest to charity. But before I did that, I made sure that everyone I knew had an opportunity to look through things and take what they wanted. It's such a hard thing to do. I didn't touch my mothers stuff for over a year. I just couldn't do it. There finally came a time when I didn't have a choice. Sorry for your loss.
  • An auction has advantages in that they get good large crowds and all the stuff usually gets sold. Sure they take a percentage, but they also do alot of work picking the stuff up, cleaning it up and displaying it, and knowing how to advertise. Unless you just have enough non valuable stuff for a garage type sale, I'd save yourself alot of grief and work and give it to a pro to handle, then split the net proceeds among the heirs.
