Some old games have patches which you can download and that would make them compatible with newer operating systems. If there isn't any patches like that available then there is no other way of making them compatible.

I run some of my old DOS games under WinXP through DOSbox, though it is rather CPU-intensive. If you have a decently fast system, you should be able to run such an emulator at a decent speed. Be warned that this does not always work. That is why I only run SOME of my DOS games.

Yes, there is a way. Go to the website "Home of the Underdogs" for specific instructions. Microsoft may also have a help page that addresses this.
