    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

American authorities may not seize and take possession of a British passport, as all documents issued by the Home Office of Identity and Passport Services are property of the United Kingdom's government. U.S. government authorities who detain British passport-holders must notify the nearest high commission and must return any recovered passports issued by the British Home Office.
