    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Downhill speed skiers typically reach speeds in excess of 100 mph, depending upon the conditions of the course. The world record for downhill skiing speed is 156.2 mph, set by Simone Origone of Italy in 2006.

The above record is for speed skiing which is a specific discipline in alpine skiing where skiers use 240+cm skis and specially designed ultra aerodynamic suits to reach the highest speeds possible driven by gravity. In downhill races skiers approach 100 mph (and sometimes exceed this speed). Recreational skiers may ski anywhere from 5-10 mph to 70 mph depending on their comfort zone and skiing ability.
