It is the origin of I-335 which is a portion of the Kansas Turnpike running from Topeka to Emporia, Kansas. Topeka is also located on U.S. Highway 24 and U.S. Highway 40. 40 is co-incident with I-70 west from Topeka. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 147.6 km sq (57.0 square miles). 145.1 km sq (56.0 mi sq) of it is land and 2.5 km sq (1.0 mi sq) of it (1.70%) is water.
