    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

You can apply for a U.S. passport at some branches of the U.S. Post Office. Be sure to bring your application form, payment and proof of identification. Some branches require appointments, so call ahead. However, the passport won't be obtained at the post office. Processing times take four to six weeks (or two to three weeks if expedited).

In addition to your identification, you also need to bring proof of citizenship, such as your certified birth certificate showing you were born in America, a naturalization certificate or a certificate of citizenship.
