Why has Michael Jackson's skin colour changed over the years?

    Michael Jackson blames it on a skin condition called "Vitiligo" which causes people of color to develop light patches of skin that lack pigment. However, Vitiligo usually looks differently. Still it's possible that Jackson changed his skin tone (either by using bleaching agents or by wearing makeup) to hide the white patches which Vitiligo produces. Vitiligo and how it relates to Jackson is described on this page:

    i know a lot of people don't beleive it, but he has a disease called Vitiligo (i think i spelt it right...) it basically turns your skin white. Graham Norton has it, but because he is already white, it is less noticable. But, if you look closely at some pictures of him in his 20s, then you can see some blotches of skin are lighter than others. But people were too preocupide looking at his nose to notice that his skin was changing color!

    I think he wanted to be white, and im not being racist or anything, i seriously think he had an inferiority complex and wanted to be a white man, so he got a nosejob and bleached his skin white and now he looks like a white woman. So much for his plans.

    Beats me. I used to love him when I was a child (no comments lol) and then I grew up and re-thought of it and I was like... WTF he changed his skin color!
    Appearently he suffers from Vitiligo which causes the decoloration of his skin.

    he used to use dark make up to cover up his light patches of skin (caused by vitiligo). then when most of is skin lost its pigments and became white he started covering up the dark skin with light make up.

    Actually now you put it like that I wonder what's in his head to make him so uncomfortable with his original African nose, too. Its almost like his sense of self and acceptability rely on appearing to be as caucasian as possible.

    Some say vitiligo, but if that's true, I'd imagine he gave up and bleached the dark blotches that were left - I've never heard of that condition being so even.

    Actually, the reason his skin doesn't look blotchy like Vitiligo is through the use of heavy makeup. If you see pix of him where he missed a spot or makeup has melted off, you can see the blotches all over him.

    Michael Jackson tried some chemicals to make his skin look consistant by lightening the dark to match the light parts.
    The condition that caused the dark and light patches was actually the dark top layer peeling in small patches- to show the next layer of skin which was light. One of his sister was born without the top dark layer, so she has always been light skin. The other sister and all his brothers were born with a dark top layer of skin- and it did not peel off.
    By the way the how of how I know that Michael Jackson's skin peeled off is that I saw, in person the curled part of each patch of skin on his right hand which was wrapped around his penis as he faced a door of a public restroom. He then followed me to a stall in the restroom. I have a full escription of the event on my website bobbydias.com
    His penis was patchy also- that is how at least three little boys have IDed his penis(the little boy in his last trial did not know what MJ's penis looked like because he was passed out from being drugged by Michael

    The official version is that it was caused by vitiligo, and I see no reason to doubt that. I knew one person who had this condition - it causes rather unsightly white blotches on the skin, so I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to use cosmetics or some other treatment to make his face one colour rather than a patchwork.

    HE DIDN'T BLEACH HIS SKIN. He had vitiligo and lupus, together lethal but in his case wasn't. Vitiligo is a long lasting skin disease that causes the losing of color from the skin. It occurs when the melanocytes, cells that give skin their color, die or do not work. Both conditions made him very sensitive to overexposure to sunlight, which could have caused his lupus condition to come back. To treat both these conditions he used Solaquin, Tretinoin and Benoquin which further lightened his skin tone. To even out his skintone, he applied a lot of makeup which made him look very pale.
