As was already mentioned, yes it is. However, it is not a wise idea to use coffee to suppress your appetite. The following are ingredients in coffee and some can cause other problems for your health :

2,3,5-TRIMETHYLPHENOL
2-ETHYLPHENOL
2-METHOXY-4-ETHYLPHENOL
2,4-METHYLENEPHENOL
DICAFFEOYL-QUINIC ACID
4-ETHYLPHENOL
4-METHOXY-4-VINYLPHENOL
ACETALDEHYDE
CAFFEINE
CAFFEOL
CAFFEOYL-3-QUINIC ACID
CAFFETANNIC ACID
CHLOROGENIC ACID
CITRIC ACID
DATURIC ACID
GUAIACOL
HYPOXANTHINE
ISOCHLOROGENIC ACID
PUTRESCINE
SCOPOLETIN
SPERMIDINE
SPERMINE
SUGARS
TANNIC ACID
TANNIN
THEOBROMINE
THEOPHYLLINE
THIAMIN
TRIGONELLINE
XANTHINE

Coffee reduces the absorption of important minerals, for example, iron, to be reduced by about 40% for up to 4 hours after consumption.

Even if you don't have severe reactions to caffeine it still can cause damage, you just won't know it for years. It reduces absorption of many important nutrients and iron in particular. More than 1/2 cup consumption of coffee a day, for a pregnant woman is enough to raise the risk of miscarriage. There are other, safer appetite suppressants and caffeine is best left alone.

Riffraff:

Yes, I know that. However, studies back as far as the 80's have shown that anything more than 1/2 a cup increases problems significantly. Recommendations aside, it is still dangerous as studies have shown. I am a childbirth educator and this is what I teach in my classes.

Actually, the current recommendation is no more than 1 cup/day for pregnant women with no other risk factors for miscarriage

Coffee increases energy, and suppresses appetite. I am pregnant with twins and I drink coffee every single day. I dont understand what all the fuss is about. There are some people that do drugs and crazy things while pregnant and youre telling me I cant have coffee that is crazy. I guess it depends on how sensitive your body is.

actually, if you drink coffee then exercise, it increases the ammount of fat burnt.

So it doesn't really lower your metabolism. And, it does suppress your appetite. It also improves mental alertness in men, enhances your sexual drive etc. And Most doctors suggest that up to three cups a day of coffee for an adult (assuming they aren't pregnant etc) can be consumed without any negative reactions.

According to my doctor, who is an internist, yes it is. He told me as long as I didn't have severely adverse reactions to caffiene (jitters, heart palpitations) I could drink a moderate amount of coffee.

Caffiene is one of the principle ingrediants in old-fashioned diet pills like Dexatrim, who touted appetite suppressants as their primary goal.

Caffeine does not cause a miscarriage.

Caffeine most definitively does *not* cause miscarriage. Not even crack causes miscarriage -- otherwise, no crack babies.

True - If you're not pregnant. If you are, why take the chance???

I don't know, but I always found when I was drinking a lot of coffee a day, I was not near as hungry. I kinda consider coffee a "thick" drink as opposed to pop or iced tea (or water). So, it seems to do that to me.

Caffiene is also the second strongest natural fat burner next to ephederine...ephydra whatever. And it's helped me through many diets.

It's appetite suppressing properties have been long studied and it now known that it is 10000 times more powerful than glucose and makes your brain believe that your are full when you are not. This makes you eat less and reduces calorie intake, thereby reducing your weight.

YES. It's very true. I tend to overeat habitually and I usually NEVER drink coffee. I did an unintentional expirament over the weekend when I had been just dragging at work I was so tired. I gave in to the coffee craze at work at had a couple of cups. I swear I had little to no appetite whatsoever even the next day. This is coming from someone who rarely drinks the stuff, though. I'm not saying it's healthy by any means...but that wasn't the question, was it? ;)

I am neither pregnant nor overweight. I will keep my 4 to 5 cups a day. It keeps me alert and active when I need to be. And activity is the best weight control there is.
