  • According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1,608.8 square kilometerkm sq (621.2 square miles). 1,572.1 km sq (607.0 mi sq) of it is land and 36.7 km sq (14.2 mi sq) of it is water. The total area is 2.28% water. Oklahoma City is the seventh largest city in the country in terms of geographic area, and the largest in land area that is not a consolidated city-county, although its urbanized zone is 244 mi sq - resulting in an urban population density more comparable to that found in other major cities, 2,515/mi sq in 2004.{{Factdate Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City%2C_Oklahoma
  • Although it appears somewhat flat OKC is actually rather rolling countryside. If you removed the city and the buildings (which weren't here before 1889 anyway) you would see a lot of small creeks, tributaries of the Deep Fork and North Canadian Rivers, cutting through the land creating a rather rolling terrain that rises up on the north and south sides of the North Canadian (now "Oklahoma" River). The eastern half of Oklahoma City is very wooded as it is the western end of the Crosstimbers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_Timbers , while the western half of the city is more open country, part of the Great Plains. Another notable feature is the red clay soil, the "Red Earth" http://www.flickr.com/photos/strph/121064128/ laid down in Permian era when the area was covered by water.
