    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The origins of the dart game are unknown but can be traced back to the Middle Ages when soldiers threw arrows at the bottom of a wine or beer barrel. Eventually someone decided that the cross-section of a tree worked better. The growth rings of the tree made it easy to determine who was closest to the middle. The first reference to a pub game called darts appeared in 1819. The game was called Puff and Darts, and players used a blowpipe to fire darts at a target of concentric rings.
