Las Vegas is located at (36.194168, 115.222060). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 340.0 square kilometrekm sq (131.3 square miles). 339.8 km sq (131.2 mi sq) of it is land and 0.16 km sq (0.1 mi sq) of it (0.04%) is water. The city is located in an arid Basin and Rangebasin surrounded by mountains varying in color from pink to rust to gray. The Spring Mountains lie to the west. As befits a desert, much of the landscape is rocky and dusty. Within the city, however, there are a great deal of lawns, trees, and other greenery. Due to water resource issues, there is now a movement to encourage xeriscaping instead of lawns. Quite dry, low to mid desert. When it rains, it rains hard. Kind of in a valley, but not really. It's a very large flat area with mountains surrounding it. After a couple of days outside of the strip, everything looks kind of pantine. Light tan, houses, mountains, ground, everythin.
