    Microsoft developed Project 2007 software as a project management tool. Its major difference from the 2003 version of the Microsoft Office suite is the addition of the ribbon toolbar, which separates the traditional toolbar into tabs along the top of the screen.

    Cost

    As of 2010, Project Standard 2007 standalone software is $599.95 if purchased directly from Microsoft.

    Pros

    Project 2007's reports offer varying ways to check on the status of a project by displaying outstanding tasks and the team members responsible, letting users see, for example, when resources need to be reallocated if one person has been assigned too many tasks.

    Cons

    The software is expensive and, according to Microsoft.com, requires 1.5GB of hard disk space. The number of options available can also be overwhelming for users who are new to project management.
