Add the desired amount of water into the chamber of the percolator pot. Use 6 oz. of water for each cup of coffee. Keep in mind that this is not a measuring cup of water. Fill the chamber up to or below the line marked on the stem (the hollow metal tube that fits into the bottom of the pot).
Insert the filter basket onto the stem. Fill with coarsely ground coffee. Use 1 1/2 tbsp. coffee per cup (6 oz.) of water used. Close the filter lid as well as the percolator lid.
Plug in the percolator. Allow the percolator to run through its cycle. This can take up to 7 minutes. The coffee is done when the percolator stops perking. If you have a non-electric percolator, put the percolator on the stove top or heat source. Allow it to sit on high heat until the coffee begins to perk. Then, reduce the heat to very low until the coffee stops brewing. Carefully remove the lid of the percolator and the entire filter stem from the pot before serving the coffee.
