For the same reason we should celebrate White Heritage Month.
Oh, wait. We're not allowed. That would be racist.
Answerbag Staff should really look at the answers to their questions before they "award" great answer. The great answer tells a great deal about Hispanic Heritage Month but that is not the question. The question is why should we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, not what is Hispanic Heritage Month.
A better answer is another question. What the hell do you care if someone celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. If it's not your thing then don't celebrate it.
Like someone commented before, the PRA above (self-selected as "Great Answer", btw) although offering interesting and compelling info, doesn't really answer the question.
I don't think anyone should celebrate. Either you identify with the cause for celebration at hand or you don't.
Ask a Progressive? Progresives put all of these special programs in place to keep people feeling seperate and different rather then encouraging people to see each others sameness and promote cohesion, and allowing people to just be humanbeings. I say we have a human heritage month where we celebrate all humans as equals.
I understood it to mean, we should celebrate because we want to recognize the significant influence of the many Hispanic American citizens, who have influenced numerous aspects in our communities.
But Im not a professional answering this, LMAO
We shouldn't.
I'm not a fan of any racist history month.
Of course. Why shouldn't it be allowed? It is nationally enforced. No agency will check to see if you celebrated. If you don't want to participate, then don't. It's the same with Black, Women's, or any other minority. I don't mind learn another culture because it gives me an understanding of the people. With that cultural understanding, you can respect and appreciate it more. As far as white history month, that's every month of the year. I know more white American history than any other culture maybe excluding my own.
Because Mexico (which is the only Spanish country that I am familiar with) has rich and ancient cultures...
because any reason to party is a good one :)
Free margaritas and Mojitos !
why not? We celebrate black history month.
Because we can?
so hot Latino babes will like us better
If you want, your choice
its a personal choice, for hispanic's , I guess.....
but personally , I don't feel it should be a 'national' thing the same as I don't think we should all have to do 'black history month'....which is even in our schools.....
Americans are of all heritages and its mighty 'partial' to celebrate only a few...
I say life's short and we should take any opportunity to celebrate. Besides, Hispanic Americans have contributed a lot to American culture and to the nation in general.
Although maybe we would seem, as a nation, a bit more like we "meant it" celebrating them if we would end our pointless and borderline racist anti-immigration policies. (Also, "borderline" could be a pun; "border-line"... get it? Enjoy!)
