  • It's a fad. If emo should be applied to anything, that should be music. Preferably music that is whiny and you hate, because I'm sure no decent bands are too fond of being referred to as emo.
  • Too scared to be goth or punk? Emo is a totally different thing. Goth and punks are just fads too. Styles, even "real styles" can be fads as well.
  • One of my sisters is an Emo. I fail to see the appeal, but I do think 'emo-style' is a more socially acceptable form, or a more toned down form of a combination of 'goth', 'punk' and several other styles, rather than something original. However, that said, each and every style or fashion has its roots in another fashion; it's easy enough to trace back and see where, why and when this change occured.
  • Every style is a "real style." You can't pretend to have a style.
  • I've been emo for years and years. I don't have a problem with being goth, but it doesn't interest me as much. I'm definitely not a fan of punk. I'm not AFRAID to be either, I just choose not to, because I'm not interested. I think it's a style. It's always been my style, and I don't see myself growing out of it in the future.
  • "Emo" is mostly just a fad. There's really not many of the true "emo" kids left, the "real emo" kids usually don't even know that they are emo, they're just severely depressed and incredibly fond of the color black.
  • Emo is more like an actual personality. Thye other two almost like religion. Punk and goth emphasize the importance of nonconformity. I vastly prefer punk to goth though. I like emo guys. Compared to other types, they're not such ***holes. But emo girls are kind of scary. Emo is like emotion+. Imagine knowing a bi-polar emo girl.
  • Emo, has nothing to do with what type of clothing you wear, well at least at one point in time it didnt. It was all about the music, and gothic people who wanted to be popular took it and ran with it.
  • I think it's kind of both. I don't know if the kids are scared to be goth or punk. I think the entire thing is kind of silly. But every generation has some fad that doesn't make sense to adults at the time. Like hippies.
  • fad. as the song says "just a bad, cheap imitation of goth "
  • no i think it's half way between indie and goth were i live emo's get picked on more than goths.
  • They are all fads, which thankfully most teens grow out of once they hit puberty.
