    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Rugby is a team sport played in many countries across the globe. The English Rugby Football Union defines the game's core values as teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. (See references 1) Playing rugby can be a good way to maintain your fitness, but it does require some specific equipment.

    Ball

The ball is an essential part of the game. A rugby ball is an oval shape, between 280 and 300 millimeters in length and between 580 and 620 millimeters in circumference. It must be made from 4 separate panels and weigh between 410 and 460 grams.

    Goal posts

The aim of the game is to score a try by touching the ball down behind the other team's goal line. Scoring a try gives the scoring team five points, but also the chance to score two more points by kicking the ball between the goal posts. Teams can also score 3 points by kicking the ball between the posts from open play or from a penalty kick. The goal posts must be an H-shape, with the two vertical posts placed 5.6 meters apart, and the horizontal bar placed 3 meters from the ground.

    Shirts or bibs

Rugby is usually played by 2 teams, each with 15 players, although the Sevens form of the game is played with 7 players in each team. Like other sports, you will need coloured shirts or bibs in order to tell the teams apart.

    Protective headgear

Rugby is a very physical game, and although it is not essential, many players wear headgear to protect themselves. These head protectors are sometimes called scrumcaps, and must be made of a soft material. They cover most of the player's head, including their ears, and fasten under the chin.

    Protective clothing

Many players also wear other protective clothing. The International Rugby Board permits shinguards, fingerless mitts (which must be buttonless), and soft shoulderpads.
