    ESPN is an abbreviation of Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.
    The network is dedicated to sports 24 hours a day. It was founded by Scott Rasmussen and his father Bill Rasmussen, and launched on September 7, 1979. ESPN broadcasts primarily out of its studios in Bristol, Connecticut and is available in over 77 million homes in the United States. The name of the company was shortened to "ESPN Inc." in February 1985.

    It doesn't stand for anything!, but since you asked, the story is this...When ESPN started in 1979 we were the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (thus, ESPN). However, that name took too long to paint across our chests on game day, so we dropped it in 1985 and adopted a new corporate name -- ESPN, Inc.-- and a new logo. And by the way, we're a subsidiary of ABC, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Co. Also, the Hearst Corporation has a 20% interest in ESPN.

It was founded by Scott and Bill Rasmussen.(son and father)and ESPN was debuted on TV September 7th 1979. ESPN broadcast in Bristol,Connecticut and is viewed and available over 77 million homes in the USA. After 6 years ESPN was shortened to ESPN Inc in February 1985. Hope this helps!
