  • According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 73.2 km sq (28.2 square miles). 69.4 km sq (26.8 mi sq) of it is land and 3.8 km sq (1.5 mi sq) of it (5.17%) is water. The rare mineral Cumberlandite is found in this area and was used as a source of iron for cannons in the colonial era. A major geologic feature of the area is Diamond Hill, a massive outcropping of white quartz, which was once a ski area and is now a town park.
