Tarnish is a result of oxidation. Cleaning your cymbals on a daily or weekly basis will prevent tarnish from ever appearing. There are many products to choose from that will help you with this but most cymbal manufacturers have their own custom cleaners. Go here------> http://shopping.msn.com/ Type in "Cymbal Cleaners" in the search shopping box and you'll get a list of the various brands.

Brasso, then rinse under warm water and towel dry. The bathtub is the best place to clean cymbals.

I work at a local drum shop and clean all of the used cymbals we buy. ONLY CLEAN PAISTE CYMBALS WITH PAISTE CLEANER. If you don't, their permanent clear coat will come off and ruin the cymbal. Budget Brass Cymbals such as ZBT or B8 use Groove Juice Jr. It not good stuff, but it's still the best for these type of Brass alloys. Sabian and Zildjian Professional Cymbals: Groove Juice (Not Groove Juice Jr.) is a miracle product. Read directions on bottle before using. NEVER CLEAN CYMBALS WITH BRASSO OR OTHER BRASS CLEANER. They will break! You're basically messing with the cymbal's tempre and restructuring the metal molecules stability. Hope this helps.

I am not a musician so I don't know whether it would interfere with the sound but, after you have cleaned them to a super-shiny state, why don't you coat them in metal lacquer? It will stop the tarnishing. (Brass door handles are coated in lacquer, that's why they remain shiny). Metal laquer is usally quick drying and easy to use - just make sure you apply it the brush lines of the metal.
