On federal tax, can I claim my sister who receives SSI & does not live with me as a dependent if I pay more than 50% of her expenses?

    Yes you should be able to, provided she didnt make to much that year. My mother claims my sister because she pays her rent, even though my sister lives 500 miles away

    If she did not disclose that to social security - it may cause future problems.
