Why does a boy have to wear a steel bar between plaster casts on his legs apart from the obvious of keeping legs apart. how wide apart are his legs and how could he travel on aircraft?

    It is to keep the ball socket of the femur in the hip socket. It is usually used in the treatment of Legg- Calvé-Perthes disease.

    If traveling by aircraft, talk to the airlines. In some cases they are quite helpful and will work with you as much as possible. It is possible to have two airline seats although it might be more expensive.

    Im not quite sure of the leg spread though. Sorry.
