Why is blue so many people's favorite color?

I find blue makes me feel calm, I think some others would agree to.

Out of all the colors, blue is the least offensive visually. What I mean by this is that it is very difficult to make a "putrid" shade of blue. It is rather easy to have unappealing or distateful shades of green, yellow, red, or purple. Almost any shade of blue is pleasant. That is why people prefer it!

Is it? I don't see too many blue cars around. It's common knowledge that people have an aversion to food that's blue colored. Also, people with blue eyes are perceived as less intelligent than people with darker colored eyes (even though eye color has nothing to do with intelligence, like being blond had anything to do with it).

Blue is a soothing color. Just think how people are calmed by the slow rhythmic ebb and flow of the water, and of the stillness of a pond.
