They should but won't. This country is full of double standards! It's do as I say not as I do!
-
I think it is a travesty that some "groups" in the US are allowed to freely use "hate words" but some are held to other standards just because of the color of their skin!
-
No, they shouldn't because it's free speech. I don't think they should have dropped Imus but for some reason we have sunk to the level of free speech being based on race. That's wrong.
-
I have to say I just don't care. I'm not trying to be negative - it just doesn't matter to me either way. If people want to listen to that music, then they should and there's no reason to take it away. If people find it offensive, then they can change the channel.

This makes a fine point, and though we have our right to "freedom of speech," if they- however "they" may be- were to try and take away Hip Hop it would only cause even MORE problems and would ultimately solve nothing. To answer your question, I'll say no, but this is simply because I'm a Hip Hop fan. I DO, however, agree with the point that you're trying to make.

Most people know that Don Imus is, well, controversial, to say the least. You know you're going to hear a lot of stuff that isn't politically correct on his program. If you are easily offended, then do not listen to it. In no way does that mean I agree with what he said. I do believe in free speech for EVERYONE, black, white, male, female, etc. It seems as if this country is taking political correctness too far. I don't agree with what Imus said, but I have noticed that minorities are allowed to get away with saying things that white people get in trouble for. Rap is a good example of this. I guess a lot has to do with demographics. The people who listen to rap expect that kind of language. The people who listen to Imus (even though we all know what he is like), don't expect that. One group is younger and mostly black. The other is older and mainly white. I can see how he got in trouble. Regardless, free speech is free speech. We should not be picking and choosing who gets to say the naughty things. I get in trouble for saying what others only think of, so I guess I am into the whole free speech thing. Except, of course, for yelling "fire!" in a crowded movie theater.

Let them stop playing rap because it is crap.
-
Yes they should because it would hit them in the pocketbook. But they won't. Imus said it one time, this stuff is played all day long 24x7. Those slang terms have entered our language and everyone uses them. Go to www.urbandictionary.com , we havea whole dictionary online to teach us how to speak like them.

Hip Hop reflects "Gangster Culture", not Black Culture or American Culture. CD's that use this offensive language are marked as "inappropriate" for minors. The same standards should apply to broadcast radio.
-
It's not about whether or not the radio stations think what he said was wrong... it's about the advertisers. The advertisers threatened to pull their money, which would create a great revenue loss for these stations. If the advertisers threatened to do the same with rap, then maybe the stations would pull that too, but they aren't, so it won't happen.
-
Yes, enough is enough! At the same time if you don't want to hear those words than don't listen to that music.
-
Yes but only because I don't like it. They have the right to be stupid just like the rest of us. I, personally, don't listen to music that is degrading or racist and don't see the value in it. I think it does a disservice to the people portrayed in these kinds of songs.
-
No. There is very little comparison between the two. Here's an example: I am Italian-American. My I-A friends might say "Hey, dago," when we joke around, and that's fine, even endearing. But if Imus says: "Why hasn't there been a dago president?" well that's clearly over the line and Imus better watch his back! The rappers and their lingo live and work in their own circle, and no one is offended.
