How old is the collection? If it's too old then its passed it's statue of limitations and you wouldn't have to pay!!! Find out the age of the debt and check with do a search on the net for statue of limitations for that state! Most collection agencies will still try to collect even though it wont show up on your credit report after that time period! You can then refuse to pay and it not effect your credit!
