It became evident that the words "gay" and "homosexual" were filtered from the front page as if they were offensive. The avatars are making a statement about treating the word "gay" as an insult. The fact that your question appeared on the front page (and contains the word "gay") means that the changes have now been made.

Any questions that contained the words "gay" or "homosexual" would not appear on the front page. Several baggers felt that AB should reconsider their filter list and contacted the staff. Users who have rainbow or gay themed avatars are likely to be in response to this issue. Just so you know, the changes have now been made and the words "gay" and "homosexual" are no longer filtered from the front page. Maybe we should have "I'm a mutt" Pride Week, for everyone of mixed heritage. like everyone. Not like I'm against gay pride week tho, the parades are really interesting.
