    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: Rugs Bring Color to a Room

Rugs can tie a room together and bring it to life by adding color and texture. They are very versatile; you can change or replace them as needed. Rugs can also be used to cover stains on the carpet and protect areas that are frequently walked on.

On the Other: They're Hard to Match

Rugs only work on solid-color carpets. It can be difficult to find a rug that matches the colors in a wall-to-wall carpet. Finding a rug that is the right size can also be a challenge; a small rug in a large space can look out of place.

    Bottom Line

Interior designers suggest using rugs to bring a warm atmosphere to your home. As long as you are careful to harmonize colors and patterns, putting a rug on top of a carpet can look good.
