Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease of the connective tissue. This means that your body's immune system attacks itself. It is mostly found in women usually between 20-40 yrs of age. The disease causes fever, painful joints, fluid in lung spaces with pain, kidney infections, cardiac problems, and nuerological problems amongst a few. The thing to remember is that where ever you have connective tissue you have the potential to have inflammation. A common symptom is the butterfly rash which is a red patch found on the face. The disease is chronic with remissions and excacerbations (meaning it gets better and then gets worse or vice versa) Hope this helps
