The first web camera was connected in 1991, and this unique device has continued to grow in popularity since then. Web cameras can be used for many purposes, such as video conferencing and surveillance.

    Telephony

Video telephony has become a popular use for webcams, as they have become cheaper. They're often built into laptops. People can see each other while they talk through the use of instant messaging programs or other applications.

    Surveillance

Individuals or companies often setup a webcam to monitor a space while they are away. The web cameras can be monitored remotely to make sure everything is fine.

    Streaming

Many Websites allow users to stream their own video, allowing individuals to have their own channel to talk about whatever they wish.

    Video

Web cameras are a cheap way to record video at home, although the quality may not be great.

    Photos

Webcams are a quick and easy way to take a picture without needing to find a camera and download the images.
