Well, let's see... two types: open body (acoustic) and closed body (electric). In addition to the standard sizes, there are bass models and scaled down models (for young students) of each type. Also, there are many variations, including: the resonator guitar (dobro), steel guitar (uses a slide instead of picks), and electric acoustic guitar (has an electronic pick-up), twelve string, arched and flat-top, etc. The upright bass (often used in bluegrass music) is actually a bass violin and not a guitar.
