A Wi-Fi internet radio will not work just anywhere. It has to be able to connect to the internet through a wireless network.
Most of these devices can connect to any station that broadcasts in the correct format. A few, however, are made to only connect to a certain company's service.
The choice of stations available on the Internet comes from around the world. It is not limited to a broadcast area the way of traditional radio.
A number of services allow the user to specify the types of songs that they wish to hear. Many of these services will also allow you to rate songs, and will use your previous ratings to try to figure out what else you may like.
Computers and Wi-Fi internet radios aren't the only devices that can connect to internet radio. Phones, MP3 players and any device capable of connecting to the internet and playing sound can potentially stream Internet radio.
