    The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) oversees industry standards for domain name registration, and does not directly handle the registration of domains. Domain name registrations must be completed through ICANN-certified registrars. Even though ICANN is not directly involved in the registration process, all domains must adhere to their regulations and standards.
