Help answer this question below.
ASP handcuffs have been designed based on extensive computer modeling and simulation analysis. The three types--chain, hinge and rigid--all have maximum strength potential, with an interlocking frame made from high-strength stainless steel. ASP handcuffs are on average 50 percent lighter than typical handcuffs. Operating the handcuffs are easier than normal handcuffs, with a single turn of the keys for locking and unlocking actions. The biggest and perhaps the only problem with ASP handcuffs have to do with the colored plastic overlays. Many police officers do not like the idea of handcuffs in different colors, and also, the units do not fit into a case made for traditional handcuffs because the overlays make them thicker than normal handcuffs. The units only fit in cases made specifically for them. ASP handcuffs are lightweight and easy to use, which may mean less fumbling in tense situations. The handcuffs may be used with a case specially made for ASP, which can be purchased along with the handcuffs. On One Hand: ASP Handcuffs Are Lightweight And Easy to Use
On the Other: Plastic Overlays May Not Be Necessary
