Many foot pads claim to pull toxins out of the body, however, there is not enough scientific evidence to significantly support this claim.
Blood flow may increase with the use of foot pads. This mechanism has not been proven nor is it understood by science.
Although different brands may use a different variation of ingredients, two ingredients are often constant: dehydrated wood vinegar and distilled bamboo vinegar.
According to foot pad claims, after the detoxification process the pad is supposed to darken in color and give off a distinct odor. Based on experiments, some believe this is just a byproduct of the foot's sweat interacting with the wood vinegar, and may not be actual evidence of detoxification.
Many companies claim that their foot pads perform detoxification and increased circulation through energy given off by infrared. Specifically, tourmaline is the substance claimed to be responsible for this, but there is little evidence for this statement.
