The Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award has been given to Hall of Famers and to one-game wonders, but how is it determined? Many people, including fans, have a say in the voting. For many years, the Super Bowl MVP was determined by a media panel. While that media panel of 16 writers and broadcasters (their names are not published) still determine 80 percent of the vote, fans can vote online or on their phones to determine the remaining 20 percent of the 2010 MVP vote. According to the NFL, fans will be able to go to NFL.com in the fourth quarter of the 2010 Super Bowl to cast their MVP vote. Fans will also be able to visit the NFL's mobile website and vote there. The leading vote-getter of the fan votes will count as 2.5 first-place votes on the panel. Fans will be able to vote at NFL.com and Superbowl.com. The winner of the Super Bowl MVP receives the Pete Rozelle Trophy and, typically, a gift from the presenting sponsor, usually a car. This year, the Super Bowl MVP is presented by GMC Sierra. The Pete Rozelle Trophy was first presented at Super Bowl XXV in 1991. The Super Bowl MVP award was first given is 1967, when it was a presentation of Sport Magazine. But in 1990, the NFL took over the awarding of postseason honors and made the Super Bowl MVP award official. Quarterbacks have dominated the award, winning it 22 times. Former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana has won three Super Bowl MVP Awards, the most ever.
