Phentermine comes in an extended-release oral tablet. It's taken once a day one hour before breakfast or 1 to 2 hours after breakfast. Most people use this medication for 3 to 6 weeks as it can be addictive.
Common side effects include dry mouth, constipation, vomiting, diarrhea, nervousness, trouble sleeping and unpleasant taste. Tell your doctor if you experience high blood pressure.
Less reported symptoms include drowsiness, dizziness, head pain and blurred vision. Alert your doctor if hives, rash or allergic inflammation or reaction occurs.
Call a doctor immediately if these rare but serious side effects occur, including depression, confusion, tremors, shortness of breath, chest pain, hallucinations and personality changes. These may be a sign of overdose.
Alcohol increases drowsiness, so take precautions while driving or operating machinery. Alert your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, have heart disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma or diabetes. Tell your doctor if you're taking other weight loss drugs, depression medication, or if you're pregnant or may become pregnant or are currently breast feeding.
