Pocket envelopes are reusable envelopes that are ideal for storing items such as receipts, coupons, important documents, flat travel items such as passports, insurance papers and traveler's checks or photos.
Materials
Many pocket envelopes are made of transparent water resistant and tear-free poly material. Some that are used for special occasions such as weddings may be made from vellum.
Closures
Traditional pocket envelopes used to be made with a string closure, but today there are many designs available which don't involve winding a string around and around a circular hook. There are Velcro closures, snap closures, zipper closures and hook and loop closures (with an elastic loop instead of string).
Designs
There are single pocket envelope designs as well as multi-pocket envelope designs in which there are several compartments with dividers within the envelope to help with organization.
Sizes
Pocket envelopes come in a vast array of sizes from small single pocket 6-by-8 inches to large, multi-pocket styles that are meant to hold 12-by-12 inch scrapbooking paper.

Common brands that produce pocket envelopes are Pendaflex, Tyvek, Lion Office Products, Staples and Itoya.
