Field hockey armbands distinguish the team captain. Coaches, referees and teammates need to know who the captain is, because she has leadership duties and is responsible for communicating with the referee.
Rules
International Hockey Federation (IHF) rules state that one player from each team must be appointed as the captain. By rule, the captain must wear a distinguishing armband on the upper arm or shoulder.
Substitute
In addition to having a team captain for every game, every field hockey team must appoint a substitute to fill that role if the captain is injured or otherwise cannot play.
Responsibility
The team captain has extra responsibilities on and off the field. The referee explains decisions to the team captain and must be able to see the captain's armband clearly. The captain must address the referee with respect as a team representative.
Material
Armbands are made of elastic material and are designed to be comfortable and stay put during the vigorous physical competition of field hockey.
Price
Field hockey clubs can purchase captain's armbands in bulk at very affordable rates.
