Cell phone functions that do not require a cellular signal run normally when a phone does not have service. This allows for the use of applications and productivity software loaded on your phone at all times.
Backup Connections
If a cell phone can be connected via Bluetooth to another phone or computer, you may be able to use these data connections as a backup method of accessing the Internet on your phone. If your phone allows wireless connections to networks, you may connect to a Wi-Fi hot spot for network use.
Applications
Most applications will continue to run normally, unless they are dependent on a network connection for some of their functions.
Games
Games downloaded to your phone will function properly, but multi-player options or network-based games will not work until service is restored.
Tools
Tools such as your address book, calendar and calculator will continue to work, even if there is not service on a cell phone.
Emergency Calls
If your cell phone does not have service because of a late payment or canceled contract, you can still place emergency calls. Just dial 911 to be connected to an emergency dispatcher.
