A throttle position sensor is usually located on the butterfly spindle. It monitors and reports data about the position of the throttle in an internal combustion engine.
Potentiometer
The sensor is typically a potentiometer; therefore, it provides a variable resistance voltage dependent on the position of the throttle valve.
Parameters
Parameters such as ignition timing and fuel injection are altered depending on the throttle valve's angle.
Throttle Opening
The throttle position sensor informs the internal computer system about the throttle opening. The resistance in the system increases as the opening becomes wider.
Engine Mode
Engine mode information such as idle, part throttle, and wide open throttle information are gathered from the throttle position sensor.
Miscellaneous
Other information gathered by the throttle position sensor to be used by the internal computer system are the air-fuel ratio correction, power increase correction, and the fuel cut control.
