It can be confusing, true, but it's getting so commonplace I'm starting to be inured to it. It's just part of the price of living in a declining culture.

yes, quite. I hate when you have to think "what is this person trying to write" rather than just read. But then again, this is a milder form of 'miscommunication'. Some people seem to have lost the art of writing altogether, or think they are being charged per typed character or something, and write the strangest phonetic crap.

Not nearly as much as when a question about it gets asked for the umpteenth time.

No. Honestly, I've never had much difficulty understanding what the person means when they do misuse those words. The point of communication is to deliver a message, and if the message gets across, the words, spelling, and grammar used are frankly irrelevant.

    Nope.

However, it DOES bother me when others bring up some issue with spelling and hammer others about it when their own spelling and grammar aren't up to snuff:

No, not at all. It is usually inadvertent. I find I do that occasionally and hopefully catch it before my final post. I am a former English major so it is not lack of knowledge that causes it. My fingers fly and my eyes see my intention rather than what I have actually written. I know that is true for me so I believe it is true for others. If I can understand the point of the question/answer/comment, it doesn't matter how the word is spelled. If I don't understand, I ask for clarification and no one has gotten angry at me for doing that so far! Happy Saturday! :)

I have to admit it does, lol. It really throws me off track because instead of reading what the words mean, I have to interpret the meaning.

I have a good friend from whom I receive the occasional email. The problem with his emails is that they rarely contain any punctuation! They are like one, long, run-on, paragraph of a sentence which are nearly impossible to understand. I don't consider myself great at writing but it's not hard to use a few extra characters to make your meaning clear.

As much written communication as there is in todays society you'd think better writing habits would be more common.

Not to mention its and it's, accept and except, and many others. Ironic thing is when they're complaining that people should speak English in the US.

Not really. On an informal site like this it comes with the territory. I hardly notice typos and spelling errors anymore. I seem to have developed a mental auto-correct facility. Granted, sometimes grammatical errors can throw you. Like when people mix up "affect" and "effect", "your" and "you're".

Yes and also your and you're. I hate poor grammar and spelling. Typos are obvious and okay but people that obviously don't care about their spelling are irritating. I hate it when people go to a typing site, such as this one, and do the text typing. I challenged one girl to type an entire sentence with proper spelling and she was unable to do it. So much for education.
