A coffee urn is a bulky coffee maker that enables you to make larger batches of coffee to serve during festive occasions. They are generally capable of making 20 to 100 cups of coffee (See Reference 1).
Costs
The cost of the coffee urn depends upon its capacity as well as its characteristics. You should be able to find a decent one from around 60 dollars. However, those with advanced features tend to cost in excess of 100 dollars (See Reference 2).
Differences
There are vast differences between the coffee urn and a coffee maker. For instance, a coffee maker is only capable of making 10 cups or less, and the coffee urn typically retains a fresh batch for a longer period of time (See Reference 3).
Types
The silver coffee urn is an elegant alternative to the regular coffee urn. They require a considerable amount of maintenance, and can be more expensive; please see the resource section for details.
Features
Most coffee urns include temperature control, a drip tray, as well as a freshness indicator (See Reference 4).
Necessity
Before purchasing, you should consider whether or not you need a coffee urn. If you require the making of 10 cups or less, then you're probably better off getting a regular coffee maker.
