Very little equipment is required for a successful video conferencing experience. In fact most computers manufactured since 2005 include both the hardware and and software required for video conferencing at no extra charge.
Webcams
If your computer doesn't already include a webcam, there are several low-cost webcams available. Visit the buying guide listed in the Resources section for reviews and prices.
Microphone
Many computers have integrated microphones, but if you need one, buy a headset. Headsets often come with microphones which reduce background noise, so they improve audio quality for the other video conference participants.
Computer and Internet Requirements
The quality of the video conference depends having both a good graphics card and video card. The speed of the Internet connection is also really important; low-speed Internet connections reduce the quality of the video conference.
Software
Many video conferencing software programs are available for free online. Among the most popular free programs are Skype, Oovoo, Apple iChat, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.
Warning
Other conference participants need to use same software you are for a video conference to work. Choose software which is commonly used by the people you plan on video conferencing with.
