  • An aircard allows users to use a wireless Internet connection through a 2G or 3G cellular phone connection. In many cases, this wireless connection is the same if not better than many other types of wireless Internet connections. In addition to the wireless Internet connection you can also use the aircard to set up a wireless network. With a wireless network, you can set up a wireless printer to act as a network printer. The wireless network printer can be used by any computer on the wireless network.

    Set up the Network

The first step to setting up a wireless printer with your wireless aircard is to set up the wireless network on which the printer will run. Make sure the aircard is connected to your computer and then connect it to one of the wireless cellular networks. Once the aircard is connected, go into the Network Connections tab in the Control Panel of the computer and set up a wireless network, connecting through that computer. This allows the computer with the aircard to act as a wireless hub, and other computers can connect to the network through it.

    Set up the Wireless Printer

Set the wireless printer up to connect to the printer with the aircard, as this will assist in providing access to the printer from anywhere within the network. Turn the wireless printer on and make sure that it connects properly to the computer with the aircard. This will take place automatically in many cases, as the wireless receiver for the printer will be plugged into the USB port on the computer, however you may need to download software from the included CD to get the printer to connect properly. As there is no wire to connect, this process should be very easy and quick.

    Share the Printer

The final step to set up the wireless printer is to share it so that other computers connecting to the aircard network will be able to use it. Surf to the printer under "Control Panel" and "Faxes and Printers." Make sure that the "Share this Printer" option is selected, and go into the computer properties and assure that the settings for the network allow printer and file-sharing. For each computer that will be connecting to the aircard network, set the wireless printer as the default printer and always make sure to leave the computer with the aircard. This way as the other computers in the network print, the document can be passed through the network connection to the wireless printer.
