  • Hyperhidrosis is the name of a condition defined by excessive sweating. People with hyperhidrosis typically sweat profusely from the palms, feet and under the armpits. While potentially embarrassing, the condition is not dangerous. However, there are various treatments available.

    Deodorant

According to the Mayo Clinic, people who suffer from hyperhidrosis can buy over the counter antiperspirants. However, if these prove ineffective, your doctor can prescribe aluminum chloride, which is stronger antiperspirant.

    Drugs

Drugs known as anticholinergics can also be helpful for people with hyperhidrosis. These drugs work by stopping the chemical that stimulates sweat glands. They may take a few weeks to work.

    Botox

According to the Mayo Clinic, botox injections block nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Results are short-lived, however, and treatment can be quite painful.

    Iontophoresis

Iontophoresis is a therapy where electrical shocks are sent to the sweat-producing parts while the body is underwater. This therapy must be done daily to be effective. According to the Mayo Clinic, iontophoresis is considered safe.

    Surgery

In extreme cases, removal of the sweat glands can help stop excessive perspiration. Another procedure severs the nerves to the sweat glands. This can stop sweating in certain parts but increase sweating in others.
