Army boot camp, also known as Basic Combat Training (BCT), is a nine-week program designed to sharpen the physical, mental, and emotional skills of a new army recruit to make him battle-ready.
Location
U.S. Army training occurs in one of six locations: Fort Benning, GA; Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC; Fort Knox, Louisville, KY; Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, MS; Fort McClellan, Anniston, AL; or Fort Sill, Lawton, OK. Your basic training location depends on the Advanced Individual Training you are to receive after Basic Combat Training.
Basic Skills
In the first week of BCT, you'll learn how to march, follow orders, and learn the proper maintenance of your standard issue M-16A rifle.
Types of Combat
During BCT, you will learn hand-to-hand combat, bayonet combat, as well as the use of firearms in a wide variety of situations.
Physical Training
During the nine weeks at BCT, a soldier will continuously undergo a rigorous physical training system consisting of running in formation, and plenty of push-ups, sit-ups, and calisthenics. They will also learn more advanced physical tactics like climbing and rapelling.
Seven Core Values
Throughout BCT, cadets are forced to live and train by the seven core values of the U.S. Army. These are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
